An upside down apartment
a penthouse in the ¨Hout haven¨, Amsterdam
At this apartment in a new district of Amsterdam you enter at the top floor and work yourself down. The topfloor consists of the kitchen/dining area and the terrass. From there you work yourself down to the living room, toilet and work/guest bedroom and then the following floor below you find yourself in the master bedroom, bathroom and another work/guest bedroom. The clients had been living in Africa for some years and this influenced, among other things, the color scheme.
The topfloor was left completely openplan by the house architect and needed to be given a separating hallway at the front door for a wardrobe and in order to stop the wind draft. The kithcen was custom made with oak cabinets and ceramic french cafe tiles
